One page per rarity

Every piece of equipment that drops in hunts has a Codex entry with 8 pages, one per rarity, from Normal to Transcendent. There are 501 of them, for every vocation: a Knight gains from installing a wand too. Only the equipment and its rarity count. Refinement, affixes and item level change nothing.

Installing destroys the piece

Open the Codex in the header, next to the Bestiary (shortcut X), and tap Review and install, or use Install in the Codex… in the item menu. Install in the city, with the pieces in your backpack, up to 100 at once.

The installed piece is destroyed and does not come back, not even as gold, fragments or refinement. Before installing, you check a box saying you understand the pieces are lost forever. Refined and Mythic-or-above pieces start unchecked. Favorite and bound pieces (NPC purchases and the starter set) cannot go in. Each character has its own Codex.

Points and collections

Each page gives points: Normal 1, Uncommon 2, Rare 3, Epic 5, Legendary 8, Mythic 13, Divine 21 and Transcendent 34. Normal to Legendary of the same equipment closes the Legendary Collection, worth 10 more points. All 8 pages close the Complete Collection, worth 50 more.

Level and bonus

Level N needs 5 × N × (N + 1) points: level 1 comes with 10 points, level 10 with 550, level 20 with 2,100 and level 40 with 8,200. Each level gives +0.25% damage dealt and +0.25% of the character's base health, the part that comes from level. The whole catalog adds up to 73,647 points and reaches level 120: +30% damage and base health.

Where the bonus works and where it shows

The bonus is permanent and works solo, in a party, offline, in the Arena, in guild wars and against the world boss. The damage adds up with the other damage dealt percentages, on attacks and spells, and follows the Damage cap like them.

In the character window, the Character tab shows the Codex level and what it adds, and the Power tab shows the calculation step by step. The Codex counts toward Power level, the ranking and the public profile. In this wiki's build planner, enter the Codex level to see its effect.

Tips

That low-level Normal piece you would sell for little is already worth a point. The Legendary page can also come from enhanced transmutation cubes. Missing a page? Look in the Market, including pieces for other vocations. If a piece missing from your Codex is in your automatic sales, remove its rule. Think twice about Mythic and above: recycled, they give the fragments for the Damage cap.
